Timket is Ethiopian language for Epiphany. Although the holiday commemorating Christ's baptism in the River Jordan is observed by Christians all over the world, Timket is of special significance in Ethiopia. It is the most important and colourful event of the year.more
 
Meskel is celebrated by dancing,feasting and lighting a massive bonfire known in Ethiopian tradition as Damera.Meskel commemorates the finding of the True Cross in the 4th century when Empress Helena, mother of Constantine the Great, discovered the True Cross on which Christ was crucified.more

 

22 day tour to south and North Ethiopia

Day 1-  Arrive in Addis Ababa. 0/N at hotel.


Day 2-  Drive to Arba Minch via the Rift Valley lakes and the villages of the Wolayta people. O/N at hotel.


Day 3-  In the morning, drive to Chencha to visit the Dorze people. In the afternoon, enjoy a boat trip on Lake Chamo. O/N in Arba Minch.


Day 4-  Drive to Jinka, visiting the Konso, Derase, Ari, Benna and Tsemay people on the way. O/N in camp or local hotel in Jinka town.


Day 5-  Visit the Mursi people and their villages. O/N in Mago National Park camp.


Day 6-  Enter the region of the Karo people and visit the villages of Kortcho and Duss; with beautiful views over the Omo River too. O/N camp at Murulle or Duss.


Day 7-  Continue to the land of the Hammer people (Turmi region). O/N in Turmi at the Evangadi Campsite & Lodge. (Camp or fixed tents).


Day 8-  Day spent in Turmi visiting the villages, the market (if possible), and watching some ceremonies such as dances and weddings.


Day 9-  Excursion to Omorate, at the banks of the Omo River, to visit the Dassanech tribes & villages. Return to Turmi for O/N.


Day 10-  Drive through Tsemay and Erbore people to the Konso villages. O/N in Konso local hotel or camp.


Day 11-  Enter into the region of the Borena people. In the afternoon, visit El-Sod crater (where the Borena men extract salt for their cattle), Borena villages and more. O/N in Yabelo local hotel or camp.


Day 12-  Go through the region of the Guji people and other very beautiful areas on your way to the Rift Valley lake of Awasa. O/N at Pina hotel.


Day 13-  In the morning, visit the fish market, and then drive back to Addis Ababa via the Rift Valley lakes of Shala, Abyata and Langano. In the afternoon you are free in Addis.


Day 14-  Drive north to Kombolcha, visiting the Afar and Oromo people.


Day 15-  Drive to Lalibela.


Day 16-  Full day visit to the 11 rock-hewn churches of Lalibela.


Day 17-  Fly to Axum. In the afternoon, tour the steles, churches and archeological sites.


Day 18-  Drive to Gondar, crossing the spectacular Semien mountains.


Day 19-  Morning tour of Gondar’s castles and churches. In the afternoon, drive to Bahirdar.


Day 19-  In the morning, visit the Blue Nile falls. In the afternoon, enjoy a boat ride on Lake Tana to adore two monasteries: as Ura Kidane Mehret and Mahal Zeghie Gyorgis.


Day 20-  Fly back to Addis Ababa. Afternoon is free.


Day 21-  Depart.
