Historically, Ethiopia was commonly referred to as Abyssinia, derived from the Arabic name “Al-Habesh”. Still today Ethiopians call themselves Habesha, though this mostly refers to the Amhara and Tigrayan people.  Ethiopia is actually derived from Greek words meaning "of burned faces".
